Hello,
I'm currently using the IMU10 DOF and it cannot detect the L3GD20.
The problem is that you're not giving the right address in your code: it's 0x69 instead of 0x6B.

following examples do not work for me:
- L3G4200D (Gyro) stucks in `gyro.enableDefault();`
- BMP085 (pressure & temperature) stucks in `bmp085Calibration();`
Any ideas?

the L3G4200D gyro is an alternative to the current gyro.
