Random question time: Is it possible to change the icon for a bookmark for a webpage on your home screen?
might help you with automatic theming.
@vinstic @jfelchner is off for a view days, so we can burn everything down here... :fire: :fire: :fire: :grimacing:

Does anyone know why, when an app is updating, it reverts to the non-Glasklart icon while the progress bar is visible?
This is because iOS just grabs the image from the App Store and displays that while downloading/installing an app. The image files (in an unknown image format, with filenames consisting of the Bundle ID and some random hex digits/dashes) are temporarily stored in /var/mobile/Library/SpringBoard/DownloadingIconImageCache
while downloading/installing and are deleted after the installation completes.
So, I don't think there is any way to theme them, though I suppose someone could try emailing saurik (creator of WinterBoard) and asking him about it...

Apple ... lot of fun.
@gaetan-petit Well, it's not completely random, it's a GUID, likely used to prevent name collisions for the filename.

Yes, just navigate to /var/mobile/Library/WebClips
and find the folder (will be named something similar to B5343759E4D747839863616F59A93107.webclip
) that corresponds to the bookmark for which you want to change the icon, and replace icon.png
.
If you're not sure which folder is which, the info.plist
file in each folder contains the title/url of the bookmark.
@vinstic I don't edit, I assign myself to the issues if I have added them to my site - when the issues are closed I check back if everything is correct and then remove the assignment. I have to do this, else I totally will end up in chaos. Sorry for that, but there is no other way. I add them to my site...... by hand (there are some small scripts that help me, e.g. automatic grab itunes data and grab the original artwork), but for the icons itself I download, open in Photoshop, save, add shine effect, save, optimize png and upload to my website with ftp.
@alldayremix thank you, had no idea where to start looking.
Would anyone be so kind and make this icon transparent: Original size: https://f.cloud.github.com/assets/3600371/247378/a75affd0-8ad7-11e2-912a-c01be30bc75f.png

Hey all, just checking in. :) Still planning on being back on the 18th. Looks like you all have everything under control. Thanks for that!
@nekholm once you get your icon saved locally, please delete those two comments. This will be a long thread and I don't want a bunch of images to have to load to view it.
Thanks!
@jfelchner yes sir, will do as soon as I get to my computer. By "those two comments", you mean the one with the icons and the thumbs up one, or?
Edit: Nevermind, edited the post.
@nekholm Hmmm...the thumbs up is fine. I think if you just remove everything from the image except from the actual link (the x's in here: ![](xxxxxxx)
) (so remove the exclamation point and brackets) it will be fine. That way the images will be just links, still accessible but the images won't load. Or @jfelchner unless you were thinking something else.....
@MagnaMike I was thinking removing the whole comment but making them just links makes more sense.
@jfelchner is back tomorrow, can we expect a huge icon update within the next couple of days?
@vinstic oh right, forgot about that rule  I mean, what question about an update? Must be a spelling error, it should say "can we expect a huge welcome back party within the next couple of days?"
All, fantastic job!! 279 icons is amazing!! Looks like I have my work cut out for me tomorrow.
I reviewed all of the non-icon request issues. I'll be replying to any of those that @'d me in them within the next couple days.
Let me know if there is anything I need to be made aware of.
Thanks to @dreamnet @vinstic, @scottbuckley, @MagnaMike and @Tr1pTr0p for doing such an amazing job while I was gone.
Am I the only one 'worried' about the massive amount of icons in the Glasklart theme? I mean, one of the reasons Glasklart is so fantastic is it wide support for a lot of app icons, but it's getting bigger and bigger with every week. Eventually the whole theme will surpass > 1GB I guess.
I was just wondering what you people think of it? Do you think it'll be a problem?
The only solutions I could see would be to split off the icons from the rest of the theme components or try to generate a 'core' set of icons that is like "Glasklart Core Icons"...
Neither of those seem ideal

Maybe split them also by itune store
@MelvinV I don't think you should be worried. As far as I can tell, a pretty standard icon is about 5kb (in the actual theme, not an icon you or I create, because @jfelchner did/does compression). Right now I believe the Glasklart Icon.theme
portion is ~30mb. So for it to go up to 1gb, we would need over 200,000 icons. I know we do a good job around here but we aren't that quick. 100mb would be over 20,000 icons and that's still a lot.
Thanks for the replies guys ;) @MagnaMike okay, I didn't know that! It's good to know that the icon files are so small. But why is the Glasklart theme so big then?
@MelvinV Well, partly because of.....me. :stuck_out_tongue: I've made sub-themes (with the help of others sometimes, thanks again guys ) that have been added to the Glasklart theme and they add up. The media theme is nearly 1MB, the weather theme is a bit over 4MB, the Safari theme is about 3.5MB, the Google Chrome theme is almost 1MB. Almost 10MB is because of me.
Also, the GUI theme is over 7.5MB. So things add up. I think the theme is 60MB total.
A wiki page on...... how to manually add icons to your device
@vinstic @dreamnet @jfelchner If one or more of you could take a look at it to make sure it is good, that would be great. Thanks
@MagnaMike Looks good! Wouldent it be better to point to /Library/Themes/Glasklart Icons.theme/Bundes
instead of var/stash/Themes.xxxxxx/Glasklart Icons.theme/Bundles/
?
@dreamnet yeah I think the same, to avoid people to get confused @MagnaMike also you can mention on step :four: that you can access that folder via ssh
Ok @dreamnet changed it, and @ivanov007 added it. Thanks
Also, I made the wiki homepage a little less boring. :stuck_out_tongue: If someone has better ideas, by all means do them, I just did something quick because it was a little sparse. Take a look
@MagnaMike looks great :+1:
All, this is the open thread but let's try and keep topics which HAVE a thread on those topics #1138
We could reduce Glasklart Theme footprint with a new package hierarchy. This is my opinion :
I'd like to share some app customisation, but I'm afraid that it will add endless entries in Winterboard theme list.
@gaetan-petit can you add info to #1181 and I'll rename the issue to be "Glasklart Theme Optimizations and Organization"
When's the next update!?!?! Really really really eager for the new icons!
Thanks! and , My bad!
Sorry @jfelchner, completely forgot about that thread. I put a post on it about the wiki page just for the record
@MagnaMike no worries. :)
@glasklart/maintainers a lot of icon requests were marked acceptably-fulfilled
but the Accepted Artwork: label was not added to the issue above the image.
Please be more careful in the future. This is required for the script I use to work properly.
See #1978 for an example
@vinstic very few. I hit like 5 at the very beginning and was like "Oh no!" After the initial batch there were only a couple so I think we're good. Ended up being 391 non-Cydia icons added. :grinning:
Still working on Cydia icons, renames, and feature issues.
@jfelchner Have you removed all the fulfilled and reanming labels? Should we re-add them? What's going on here?
@dreamnet everything is done and going into the next release!
@jfelchner @dreamnet @vinstic Hi guys! Just writing to say sorry I haven't been around much for the last month. I just started a masters degree, and I'm teaching a couple of undergraduate university units on the side, so I'm pretty flat-out pretty much all the time now! Also I haven't managed to get photoshop set up at uni yet, so haven't been able to contribute in my down-time at uni either. I'll soon be buying a macbook pro for uni/work, and when that happens i'll be able to be a little more active!
Hope everything is going well for you all!
@scottbuckley no worries! We just like having you around regardless. What's your masters degree going to be in?
@jfelchner No changelog for v3.4 on cydia?
@MagnaMike Should've been. I added it.
@MagnaMike the icon I submitted is also jacked up. Not sure what they did.
Well, the package "maintainer" is poetic_folly@modmyi.com so we could send him an email or twenty...
@jfelchner I've got the following issue: I have set up my own Glaskjlart folder with all the App-folders I need and all the icons for iPad and iPhone. That was working fine in iOS5, now in iOS6 only the stock and cydia apps are displayed correctly, all app-store apps are displayed with a black background. In another posting (I couldnt find it again) you said that the black background issue has been fixed a long time ago. So I tried to install Glasklart from Cydia: same problem.
However, if somehow possible I would like to understand how to fix the black-back-problem. I tried my best to find out how, but I failed :-(
I tried to rename the AppIcanMask~ipad.png to stg. else but it didnt change anything.
All I need is the right keyword, I'm good at reading :-)
All the best and thanks in advance.
@iprecious there have been quite a few issues where things get out of whack regarding the black icons when people do custom stuff.
Unfortunately there are just too many variables for us to be able to track it down:
Everything that we've found regarding this problem is solved by a stock Glasklart. In other words if you were to wipe your device, install iOS, jailbreak it and then install Winterboard and Glasklart, it would work correctly.
Obviously if you figure out the issue and it's something we can change in Glasklart to keep this same thing from happening to others, I'd certainly do it if it had no side effects, but until we know what the cause is, there's not much we can do. :frowning:
First of all: THANKs for the quick reply!!!
Alright, let's give it a try:
In general: the prob existed from the very start when I hadnt' made a lot of changes (I know "not a lot" is a very precise term ... :-)). I thgen tried to use the Cydia version of glasklart, didnt work either, even if i unchecked all other themes.
@iprecious I wasn't listing those out for you to try and tell me, I was listing them to give examples of why it's too complicated to try to troubleshoot via a Github issue thread. :)
The only thing I can point you to is the AppIconMask file. This is definitely what causes the black backgrounds. The fact that yours is displaying black backgrounds means that it has somehow been messed up. I have no idea how. The Glasklart theme replaces it with a transparent 1px x 1px image which works for everyone else.
It is almost certainly something you did to your device that is causing the problem.
I thought we needed a place to just shoot the crap, ask random stuff, etc.
This issue will never be closed and I'm expecting it to get rather long. :)
Unless you're using Github notifications or sorting your issues by "Updated" rather than "Submitted" this issue will probably fall below page 1 very quickly.
Hopefully that will keep the noise to a minimum.
