HBO Max is now "MAX" in the US #454

Hi there. The HBO Max addon still works in the US. But the website "hbomax.com" now redirects to max.com. So if the addon stops working for Americans one day, that is something it keep in mind. Perhaps you should roll out an update that responds to max.com if hbomax.com is not responding. That way, we're not gonna have that issue. Alternatively you could just create a separate MAX addon with the new MAX branding. The latter might be a better idea, as MAX combines all the content from HBO Max and Discovery+. So it might use a different API than HBO Max. Because when I search for Discovery+ programs within the HBO Max addon now, I get nothing.

I'm not sure what you mean. The Max add-on isn't ready yet. It's available, but doesn't show any actual shows yet

Something on your side, probably wrong version of widevine. For me it plays nicely on Windows Kodi 21, widevine version 4.10.2710.0

At a quick glance, I see an important problem (at least on Linux), which I guess is actually a Kodi bug. Videos have multiple chapters, and when you pass to chapter 2 or higher, a search forward or backward causes the video to return to chapter 1, even though the seek bar shows the correct position.

Most probably an inputstream adaptive issue. I wonder if the version in Kodi 20 or 19 is more reliable? 21 Inputstream adaptive has gone through a lot of changes

confirmed. Fixed with slyguy.max -> v0.0.2

Im not sure exactly how to find which content MAX requires L1 widevine for. I chose anything with height over 600. now reduced to 580 so Star Girl works correct

I need to find out how their website / app knows which resolutions L3 supports. It may be in the Widevine CENC data, just not sure. For now just looking at video height

PS: Yes, an initial version for MAX was pushed to my repo last night NZ time. It allow has "Search" for now. But any content you can search for - should be playable :)

More navigation / features will be added over the coming weeks

Tested on Linux with Kodi 19 and 21, and on a smartphone with Kodi 21. The same problem with all of them. Moreover, subtitles disappear after reaching the second chapter (Kodi 21, subtitles never show on Kodi 19).

the South Park movie "bigger longer uncut" works fine I also watched an episode of Deadly Affairs. Works great. The "Scooby-Doo Dog And Guess Who" show has audio glitches where the audio constantly cuts out for about 10 milliseconds, almost as if the audio track is running out of buffer. These I did not watch with h265/hevc enabled.

Then I watched an episode of "Hell House". Which also works great, both with and without hevc enabled. But then I tried the same episode of Scooby-Doo with Hevc enabled, and the episode worked fine. No playback issues.

EDIT: I then enabled dolby atmos and watched the beginning of the movie "See No Evil" (not the Investigation Discovery series), wearing my dolby atmos supported headphones. Works great.

It seems that every video encoded in h265 work just fine. Not sure if the issue in regards to the x264 version of Scooby Doo was on my end or widevine related.

Yea, I thought so. But all the shows and movies that I've tried work just fine, no matter the name structure. I've tried titles with both comma, apostrophe and exclamation in the same title. No issue. Idk if that was really a worry, but just thought I'd mention it.

So no one else is having the problem with the chapters and seek? Maybe it only happens in Spain?

This is what is happening to me, testing with episode 6x01 of Rick & Morty. The time bar shows dots indicating chapter markers. When I press the up arrow, it skips to the second chapter at the 11:43 mark. The time bar updates to 11:43, but the video starts from the beginning of the episode. If I then press the left arrow to rewind to 11:32, the video is really at 11:32. After playing for a while and reaching 11:46, pressing the left or right arrow takes the video back to the beginning of the episode, even though the time bar indicates the time it should actually be.

Each time I press the up arrow, it skips to a different chapter, but the video always plays from the start of the episode.

I tested with several tv shows and movies, and it happens the same with all of them.

Playback issues need to be brought up to Inputstream adaptive. Thats had so many breaking changes lately that its exhausting trying to raise them all / track regressions. Users who are affected are welcome to do that: https://github.com/xbmc/inputstream.adaptive

That subtitle issues sounds like a familiar IA issue. @Paco8 i tested and get same chapter behaviour. again - best to raise with IA

I mean, if you're on Kodi 21, you really shouldn't be complaining about stability issues and bugs too much. My best advice is, stay on version 19 or 20.

chapters cause so many issues. i wish we could just IA / Kodi to ignore them and just treat the whole thing as a single thing. I dont like the VOD elements for chapters etc.

OK. 0.0.3 just pushed that removes extra periods making the entire content a singular. So removing the chapters.

Hopefully that helps with the subitles chapter bug too

Ah, now I got the reason. The series 1 of this show is not available in my country, on the web it doesn't not show on the list at all. Ideally it shouldn't be shown in the list of seasons in the addon as well, but now in 0.0.3 it does not popup an error, but instead it shows message "no items". So I think it's fixed, thanks!

In version 0.03 the problem with subtitles remains. Fast forward to where it was before chapter 2 - no subtitles. Kodi 21.

@etgecata please test with 0.0.4 that i just pushed. that brings over the "fix subs" manifest code from hbo max which converts the subs to use a single vtt file instead of segmented. Should do the trick

Thank you Matt. The chapters shouldn't be scrapped all together though, as the issue could very well be IS related. Add it as an experimental optional feature in the settings, disabled by default.

Judging by the error and the fact your Kodi is set to Japanese, I'd say it's character input related @matthuisman @fantuan86 To confirm, please set Kodi's language to English, restart Kodi and try again. The error may be related to the characters.

either that or changing VPNs between requests. it caches config etc so may be using one geo for X and another for next @fantuan86 that error is coming from MAX, so im not what it means either. If I can reproduce, I can investigate
